| Oxazepam is also used to treat irritable bowel syndrome. This medicine is sometimes prescribed for other uses. OXAZEPAM (Serax®) is a benzodiazepine. Benzodiazepines belong to a group of medicines that slow down the central nervous system. Oxazepam relieves anxiety and nervousness, and can help patients cope with alcohol withdrawal.

precautions
Oxazepam can be habit-forming. This medicine should be taken regularly to be effective. Stopping the drug suddenly can worsen your condition and cause withdrawal symptoms (anxiousness, sleeplessness, and irritability).
Before taking oxazepam, tell your doctor
- If
you are allergic to oxazepam, or any other drugs.
- If
you are taking medical preparations especially antihistamines.
- If
you have or have ever had glaucoma or seizures, or lung, heart, or
liver disease.
- If
you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
- If
you are having surgery, including dental surgery.
- You
should know that this drug may make you drowsy, do not drive a car
or operate machinery.
